 1. How many Melanage Peel treatments are recommended per year?

While you may notice improvements in your skin's appearance after just one treatment, it is recommended to have no more than two Melanage Peels per year to maintain optimal results and minimize the risk of overexposure to the active ingredients. Maintaining yearly Melanage Peels with the recommended topical creams in between treatments is the best way to maintain long-lasting results.

2. What can I expect during the Melanage Peel treatment?

Melanage Peel is applied during an office visit after the peel is freshly compounded. Application takes approximately 20 minutes with a uniform layer being applied. Patients will leave the office with the peel on their face, which remains on for a required length of time per instructions from the doctors. The remainder of the treatment will continue at home with a follow-up visit. Patients are responsible for adhering to an easy-to-follow, but strict at-home regimen involving the application of included products.

3. What products should I use after the Melanage Peel?

After the Melanage Peel, it's important to follow a skincare regimen that promotes healing and maintains the results of the treatment. At Doctor Edges, we recommend our exclusive Nia Rejuve retinol cream, Melabright cream, VitaC Restore, and MelabrightMD to help maximize the benefits of the peel post treatment. These are specially formulated products that contain ingredients that nourish the skin and enhance its overall health and vitality.

4. What results can I expect?

Results will vary, but generally patients will see improvement in skin tone and texture. Dark spots will lighten, complimented by an improved skin texture and tone. Although most patients experience peeling of their skin for up to 10 days of downtime typically, not every patient will experience peeling. If you don’t notice actually peeling, please know that you are still receiving the benefits of the Melanage Peel System.

The Melanage Peel System provides the most significant improvement of all our peels, designed to improve the appearance of uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation, and melasma. Our doctors recommend 1-2 treatments per year for most clients, yearly to six months apart, and a follow-up visit 2 months after the peel. The Melanage peel is suitable for all skin types including darker skin tones. Specially formulated, full-sized home care products are included with each peel to complete your 4-6-week treatment.

5. What are the benefits of the Melanage chemical peel?

  • Improves the appearance of epidermal and dermal melasma and brown spots (hyperpigmentation)
  • Diminish acne lesions and scarring
  • Reduces fines lines, wrinkles, improves texture, and pore size through collagen stimulation
  • Creates an overall brighter complexion

6. What is the after treatment for the Melanage chemical peel?

  • Most but not all patients experience peeling skin after the treatment. Peeling generally starts on day 2 or 3 and is at its worst for the first 5 days.
  • Your skin may feel tight and dry, similar to a sunburn, but not painful. Redness may be present for 1 to 2 weeks.
  • You will want to avoid heat and sun exposure after your treatment. In the future it is important to use sunblock every day (medical-grade, broad spectrum UVA and UVB SPF 30+. Our Doctor Edges team will provide you with your post peel recommendations). Sunblock should be re-applied every 2 hours while in the sun.
  • There will be a significant improvement in the appearance of pigmented areas. Dark spots will lighten, and skin texture and tone will improve.
  • We recommend a follow-up visit with our doctors and her team 2 months after the peel.

7. How Does the Melanage Peel work?

The Melanage Chemical Peel uses two ingredients, retinoid and arbutin to penetrate the skin and treat discoloration of the skin while speeding up cell turnover. It involves a medicated mask and an at-home treatment regimen.

8. Is the mask painful or does it burn your skin?

There is not a burning or stinging sensation while the mask is on. It may however feel a little tight and dry similar to a sunburn afterwards. There are products to help eliminate any discomfort.

*Results may vary from person to person. Some people experience results faster than others.
