Are female hair transplants different from those from men?

While the basic principles of hair transplantation are similar, the approach may differ. Female hair transplants often require a more specialized design to create a natural-looking hairline that complements facial features for a woman. Women tend to prefer follicular unit transplantation (FUT) as it typically involves the removal of a strip of tissue from the donor area, and only a narrow strip needs to be shaved. This can be appealing to women who wish to conceal the donor area more easily compared to FUE, where individual extraction sites are scattered throughout the donor region, requiring a shorter overall haircut on the entire lower half of one’s head. Some women prefer FUT as it leaves a linear scar that can be easily concealed, especially when the hair is kept at a moderate length.

It is vital to consult with our qualified physicians to determine the most suitable technique based on individual factors, such as the extent of hair loss, donor hair characteristics, and personal preferences.

Is the procedure painful?

Local anesthesia is used during the procedure, ensuring that you are comfortable and pain-free. Patients may experience mild discomfort or soreness in the days following the transplant, but it is generally well-tolerated with the post-operative care provided by our team to our patients.

What is the downtime after a female hair transplant?

Downtime varies among individuals but is typically minimal. Most patients can resume their normal activities within a week. It's essential to follow post-operative care instructions provided by our physicians and medical team.

How long does it take to see the results?

Hair transplant results are gradual and become noticeable over several months. New hair growth typically starts within 6 months, and full results may take up to 18 months depending on hair type, texture, and the specific needs of each patient. We encourage all patients to continue their ongoing medical treatment for their hair loss at Doctor Edges.

Are there any side effects or risks associated with hair transplants?

Like any medical procedure, there are risks. Your hair transplant consultation will be with a board-certified physician who will review your most updated medical, surgical, social, and family history to evaluate your risk for hair transplant surgery. Furthermore, before your procedure, your history will be further reviewed by our highly skilled board-certified internal medicine physician, who will thoroughly discuss potential side effects and risks during your consultation to prevent and reduce the likelihood of operative and post-operation complications. If complications do occur with a hair transplant, our experienced medical team will ensure they are promptly remedied.

How much does a female hair transplant cost?

During your consultation, we will provide a personalized quote based on your specific hair restoration goals. At Doctor Edges the price of your hair transplant is determined by the type of hair transplantation procedure performed and the size of your zone where hair is to be transplanted (for example, hair line, temporal region, frontal scalp, mid-scalp, crown, beard, or eyebrows). The price is inclusive of estimated grafts, pre-operation appointment, anesthesia, and medications administered during your procedure. If your surgery is booked within 30 days, your consultation fee may be used towards your hair transplant total cost. For more information or to schedule a consultation, feel free to contact us via call, text, or email. Our team provides the support and information you need to make an informed decision about your hair transplant.

Should I have a hair transplant in Turkey or another foreign country because it is cheaper than in the United States?

If you are considering a hair transplant in another country, we would advise caution because your operative and post-operation safety should be most considered. Additionally, hair loss is a multifactorial disease that requires ongoing medical follow-up and care. Lastly, if there is a need for a second surgery due to the other areas of untreated hair loss, if too many hairs are taken to fill the desired areas, a second surgery may not be possible due to over harvesting. At Doctor Edges, our board-certified physicians and skilled medical team bring years of experience in the field of hair restoration. We understand the precision required for female hair transplants and managing hair loss in women, ensuring personalized treatment plans that cater to individual needs. No two cases of hair loss are alike. Our clinic takes a personalized and comprehensive approach to female hair transplants, considering factors such as hair type, texture, and your specific needs.
