What are Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) hair transplants?

A minimally invasive, outpatient procedure where single hair follicles are extracted from the donor area to be placed in the balding or thinning areas. The recipient area is prepared with small surgical incisions, and the extracted follicles are meticulously implanted into these sites. Delicately placing the grafts into these incision sites, they strategically position units with 1-2 hairs along the front hairline and units with 3-4 hairs on the top and back of the head, following the natural hair growth pattern.

The precision of the procedure ensures natural-looking results as the transplanted hair seamlessly integrates with the existing hair. Unlike traditional methods, FUE does not involve a linear incision or a visible scar, making it a popular choice for those seeking a discreet and natural-looking solution, more commonly in men as this requires shaving of the entire bottom half of their hair.

What can I expect the day of my FUE procedure?

The hair in the donor area (typically the back and possibly sides of the scalp) will be shaved, and local anesthesia will be administered to numb the scalp. Tiny circular incisions are then made to remove individual follicular units containing 1-4 hairs per graft. These grafts are meticulously harvested and preserved on ice for optimal transplantation conditions.

Following this, our Doctor Edges surgical team create small recipient incisions in the thinning areas of your scalp. The grafts are delicately placed into these sites, with single or double hair units along the hairline and units with 3-4 hairs on the top and back, ensuring natural-looking density and desired outcomes. Blending the transplanted hairs seamlessly with existing growth is an art mastered by our experienced team, who are dedicated to helping you achieve your hair restoration goals.

Are there any restrictions or special care after an FUE procedure?

Patients are generally advised to avoid strenuous activities for at least one week after the procedure and follow postoperative care instructions provided by our team. Gentle care of the transplanted area and proper follow up is essential during the initial healing phase.

Are the results of FUE permanent?

The results are as close to permanent as possible. The transplanted hair follicles tend to be more resistant to the effects of hair loss, providing a long-lasting solution for those seeking hair restoration, but care must be taken in the recovery period and continuing ongoing medical therapy for hair loss is vital to maintaining long-lasting results.

How much does a FUE hair transplant cost?

During your consultation, we will provide a personalized quote based on your specific hair restoration goals. At Doctor Edges the price of your hair transplant is determined by the type of hair transplantation procedure performed and the size of your zone where hair is to be transplanted (for example, hair line, temporal region, frontal scalp, mid-scalp, crown, beard, or eyebrows). The price is inclusive of estimated grafts, pre-operation appointment, anesthesia, and medications administered during your procedure. If your surgery is booked within 30 days, your consultation fee may be used towards your hair transplant total cost. For more information or to schedule a consultation, feel free to contact us via call, text, or email. Our team provides the support and information you need to make an informed decision about your FUE hair transplant.

Should I have a hair transplant in Turkey or another foreign country because it is cheaper than in the United States?

If you are considering a hair transplant in another country, we would advise caution because your operative and post-operation safety should be most considered. Additionally, hair loss is a multifactorial disease that requires ongoing medical follow-up and care. Lastly, if there is a need for a second surgery due to the other areas of untreated hair loss, if too many hairs are taken to fill the desired areas, a second surgery may not be possible due to over harvesting. At Doctor Edges, our board-certified physicians and skilled medical team bring years of experience in the field of hair restoration. We understand the precision required for FUE hair transplants and managing hair loss in our patients, ensuring personalized treatment plans that cater to individual needs. No two cases of hair loss are alike. Our clinic takes a personalized and comprehensive approach to female hair transplants, considering factors such as hair type, texture, and your specific needs.

Is FUE hair transplantation a painful procedure?

The procedure is conducted under local anesthesia, guaranteeing your comfort and a pain-free experience. While patients might encounter mild discomfort or soreness in the days post-transplant, it is generally well-tolerated with the post-operative care provided by our team to our patients.

What is the recovery time for FUE?

The recovery time for FUE is relatively quick. Patients can typically resume normal activities within a few days to 1 week, and any redness or swelling in the donor and recipient areas usually subsides within a week or two.
